Driven by determination and an ardent desire to support his family and the children in our country, Maruthi LR joined school a tad later than the precise age for schooling. However, that was circumstantial but now Maruthi has made up his mind to complete his education and also wants to pursue higher studies. This young boy has remarkably stayed devoted to his goals and planned out everything in astonishing precision.

He has a sister who is 21 years old but never got a chance to go to school. "Every time my two other siblings and I return home from school, my sister comes running to us and flips through our books asking us about what we learnt at school. She encourages me to go to school and participate in all cultural activities. She did not get a chance to go to school and hence she wants me to study hard and do well in life," says the responsible brother.

When Maruthi was in the fifth standard, he knew he wanted to become a teacher. Over the past three years his plans have strengthened and now he knows exactly when and how he would achieve his goals. Firstly, he wants to teach because he is aware of the fact that there are millions of kids in our country who come from a low economic background. "I want to teach as many kids and help them stand on their own feet," says the determined boy.

Expressing his gratitude towards Akshaya Patra for the mid-day meal programme, he says that the food has helped not only him, but also others in his school since many of them don’t get food at home. "The fresh and nutritious food provided by Akshaya Patra especially during summer vacations is like a blessing in disguise to many of us. Since I have gone through hardships, I realise the importance of food for education," says Maruthi.

The advantages of just one meal per day are unimaginable when it comes to children who are often equated with the future of a country. Hence, it is important to strengthen them today for a glorious tomorrow.
