Billions of children join school every year. All these children have the zeal to achieve high in their lives. But, due to lack of basic facilities many children drop-out of school. In order to encourage education, The Akshaya Patra Foundation came up with a solution in the form of mid-day meal programme. Akshaya Patra provides mid-day meal to 1.3 million school children every single day. Freshly cooked food is distributed to more than 9000 Government schools in India. The implementation of this programme saw more and more children attending school regularly.

Akshaya Patra Indian ngo beneficiary Lemuel RegoThis is the story of the hope of a boy, whom we met during our recent visit to a school in Bangalore. Lemuel Rego, a car enthusiast dreams of completing his Diploma in Automobile Engineering someday. He is an 8th Standard Student of the Government High School, Sane Guravanahalli, Bangalore. He wants to pursue his Diploma instead of regular Degree in Engineering due to the financial difficulties at home. He has an elder brother studying in 10th standard in the same school. His mother is a house wife and father is a plumber. The mid-day meal is usually his first meal through the day and he eagerly awaits its arrival. Lemuel is a science geek and has experimented with a lot of things in school, like boat, gober gas and vacuum cleaner. He is grateful for the hot meal he receives everyday and said, "I love the Akshaya Patra food. My favourite dish is rasam and rice."

The Akshaya Patra is relentlessly working to fulfil every child’s dream. A small step from your side could make some child’s dream come true. Come and be a part of our mission: "Unlimited Food for Education."
